Project Spotlight: Nashville Classical Charter School

Teachers aren’t the only ones gearing up for the new school year. Ozburn-Hessey and other demo crews have used the summer to complete a new floor installation with vinyl as well as refinishing hardwood floors for Nashville Classical Charter School, located on Ordway Place. Ozburn-Hessey was able to work with DWC Construction and a team of other certified professionals to make sure the finished project was nothing short of beautiful.

The entire project took a little over a week and a half for the Ozburn-Hessey team. One crew of 4 focused on the vinyl floor installation while another crew of 4 worked on the hardwood. They were able to install almost 8,000 square feet of vinyl tile, re-sand 2,000 square feet of hardwood and re-coat another 8,000 square feet in the school.

The hardwoods were a trickier part of the job. During the renovation, the general contractor (DWC) and the demo crew pulled up old commercial carpet leaving old adhesive residue. Together, with Ozburn-Hessey they were able to agree on an adhesive remover that would get rid the residue from the hardwoods before re-sanding began. Once the adhesive was removed, Ozburn-Hessey took their belt sanders to the flooring, removing the dull, ugly surface and restoring the floors to their original beauty.

Built in 1907, the East Nashville building began as an elementary school called Ross Elementary School (named after a prominent Nashville teacher and principal). In 1933 severe tornado damage to the building caused it to close its doors. It has since reopened and now operates as a Metro elementary charter school.
