How to Implement Rubber Floor Tiles into Your Child’s Playroom

Keeping your kids’ playroom safe is essential for making playtime fun and keeping them entertained. There are many avenues you can take to ensure the space is kid-friendly. From covering electric outlets and sharp edges to taking green cleaning measures and installing cushion flooring, there is a long list of ways to keep everyone safe and happy.

When thinking about residential flooring, rubber flooring may not be top of mind but it can actually be appropriate for several rooms. Installing rubber flooring into your playroom has several benefits.

Installing Rubber Flooring for Your Playroom

How Do You Install Rubber Flooring?

Rubber flooring tiles or rolled rubber flooring can come in many different styles to complement many spaces. Though they’re a newer type of flooring and not as diverse as other types, you can still choose from an array of designs so your space won’t look like a gym.

  1. First, you’ll want to clean the flooring which you’ll lay the rubber flooring tiles or roll upon.

  2. After sweeping and mopping, let the flooring dry.

  3. Once it’s dried, put a protective paper underlayment or subflooring down to protect the flooring, especially if it’s hardwood.

  4. Apply flooring glue or double-sided sealing tape on the current flooring, preferably around the perimeter where the rolls will start and finish in the room.

  5.  Begin unrolling or placing mats down, pressing out any bubbles or flaws as you go.

  6. Let it set before walking upon the flooring.

Though DIY projects can be exciting and fulfilling, it’s always best to call in the professionals to ensure your rubber flooring is properly installed.

Why Rubber Flooring Is Perfect for Your Playroom

Rubber flooring is not only easy to install and looks good, but it’s also super easy to clean and maintain. With kids playing, foot traffic, and potential spills or accidents, this is essential to keeping the room looking good and hygienic.

Simply sweeping and mopping once a week will suffice, keeping dirt and debris off the floors and away from your kids.

Residential rubber flooring also lasts and does well in humid climates, especially in cities like Nashville, TN. Unlike hardwood flooring, rubber flooring won’t expand and contract with the everchanging heat cycles in the summer. And unlike residential carpeting, rubber flooring won’t attract mildew if it gets too humid.
