One of the nice things about the autumn is the way it brings families together. There are many holidays to celebrate, from giving out candy at Halloween to the sheer amount of food to eat at Thanksgiving, to say nothing of the random family get togethers. There is something that tends to get forgotten with all of this family time, and that is the effect it has on your floors. The amount your floors are impacted depends on the quality of your home and the material it is made of, so there might be some hope. If you already know that your floors will not hold up to the extra wear and tear the fall season brings, then maybe now is the time to think about a change. The professionals here at Ozburn-Hessey will be able to help you pick out a new hardwood flooring or carpet and install both.
Keep it Clean
If all you need is a little bit of floor maintenance, then here are some tips to help keep things clean. For most hardwoods, the summer months can be tough, especially if you have animals or kids or access to a pool, all of which will add to the stress on the flooring. Before the fall family fun season really hits its stride, it might be a good idea to clean it daily or every other day, at minimum, to keep things reasonable. This means vacuuming it, preferably with a special hardwood vacuum, and possibly mopping.
Now, when you are mopping you need to keep in mind what chemicals you use, unless you have laminate flooring or vinyl flooring, as both of those materials are pretty tough and durable. With something like a traditional oak hardwood, however, you run the risk of discoloration if you use too strong a chemical. In these cases, it is best to avoid using anything beyond hot water, with maybe just a little bit of soap to make things a tad bit bubbly. When it comes to carpets, vacuuming on a daily basis is a must. Dirt gets trapped down in the fibers, and a lot of it gets missed if you are only cleaning it once or twice a month. If the color is a little off, getting a steamer and really going at it is a great way to restore it.
If things are looking pretty rough on the floor front, then maybe an entire new floor is in order. The professionals here at Ozburn-Hessey specialize in floor installation, and they can help you find the right floor. Fall is a great time to show off the new flooring, and a nice, deep oak or otherwise rustic look would definitely fit the vibe. Think something like reclaimed old barn timbers, or something with a wide plank. With carpet, think dark, as it is more likely to hide the stains and wear of the family season, as well as making things look cozy.
Autumn is the time of year to start thinking about these things, as you do not want to embark on a project of that magnitude during the cold winter months. Time is running out to make these things happen, so make sure to contact us so we can help you get the floor you and your family will love.
