Twenty-five years in the making, the Middle Tennessee State University’s Rhea Atrium opened its doors to the MTSU community a couple weeks ago. And thanks to Ozburn-Hessey, there are beautiful acoustical ceilings and wood paneling in the university’s state-of-the-art science building. The ceiling installation was completed for both aesthetics and functionality purposes. Not only did Ozburn-Hessey install an impressive 200,000 square feet of acoustical ceilings, but they also installed 6,000 square feet of beautiful wood grille panel ceiling tiles.
The ceiling installation itself took about a year to complete. The Ozburn-Hessey team consisted of 6-8 full-time workers with two project managers and a full-time superintendent. The building itself measures in at 257,000 square feet, and the team covered well over 200,000 square feet of that space, making it one of Ozburn-Hessey’s largest projects ever completed.
Though the acoustical ceiling installation was the main portion of the project, the wood panel grille has an aesthetic beauty to be admired. (Who said hardwoods had to be on the floor, right?) These Rulon International’s Panel Grille ceiling tiles can evoke an array of looks. Whether you are looking for something modern or traditional, wood panel grilles are a great way to achieve your desired look.
The new $147 million science building will host the biology and chemistry departments as well as several MTSU graduate programs. The new building will include 6 lecture halls, 37 teaching labs, 13 research labs and 2 open labs available for students.
This project with MTSU is just one of many that Ozburn-Hessey has had the honor of completing in the Middle Tennessee area. From hardwood to acoustical ceilings, Ozburn-Hessey has done it all.
